Digging In

 Today's warm weather inspired me to go work in the garden. We are so close, folks! I was really pining for some good winter weather, but after today, I think I'm ready for spring. I love the life and color it brings with it. Veggies, fruits, flowers, leaves, grass! Know what I mean?

 I guess it's warm enough for weeds to start sprouting up, because I spent most of the day picking them out of the dirt. Gotta get some newspaper and mulch down to stop those suckers.

A Garden Update: Worship and Solarization

 I wish I could be updating you all on all my awesome veggies in my garden, but I can't, because there isn't one! This year, I had high hopes for having a successful veggie garden. Then as 2011 came to an end and 2012 began, life got much busier, and I found myself having to re-prioritize. And that's okay. 

  For a long time I had been asking God to give me a hobby I could be passionate and excited about; a way I could worship Him through my creativity. Kevin worships through writing music, and I have friends who worship through painting and even baking. Praise God for that, right? But none of those things ever spoke out to me when I tried them. Then, God in all His love and grace, placed the desire to garden on my heart. It was no coincidence that we moved into a house with a big garden plot in the backyard around the same time.It felt so good digging my hands in the dirt. I loved having that time to connect with the Creator of all things, and I still do.

The internet is a magical place filled with wonderful ideas and pictures and books and other time-wasting things. Here are a few favorites I've found around the web this past week.

• Happy Tape - How fun is this? I don't actually have any yet, but I'm imagining wrapping many future Christmas gifts with it. Or even just put in on the wall for decoration.
• My new summer read - I am loving this book! It couldn't be any more fitting for me right now. Excited to apply the Word to my passion of gardening.
• This farm house on Longest Acres blog. Can you imagine living on a farm in that beauty? Oooo... dreaming...
• DIY bed legs - love the options for color and design. Perfect idea for future bedroom furniture.

Dreaming of...Gardens!

Here are a few snapshots from the Myriad Botanical Gardens in OKC. Isn't is such a pretty place? The Crystal Bridge is a-mazing inside! It costs maybe 5 or 6 bucks to get in, but it's absolutely lovely (if you're into looking at plants and all). We didn't go in this time around because I'm pretty sure T and B could care less about looking at plants.

And how beautiful are those raised beds in that last picture? Someday, you will be mine, raised beds!
